Today’s lecture is about how to win in this life. A lot of people will tell you about all the things they have, but the real talk is about how they got there.
A few years ago, many of the things I have now were not available to me. But I kept speaking them into existence, and as I am speaking, everything starts to fall into place.
That is the power of positive speaking.
When people hear me talk, my Delta State people go dey mention Tony Elumelu, Ned, and all the big names, asking if I am richer than them. I will tell them, “You know their account balance? You know my card balance? No.”
It’s God that rates me. This kind of mentality is why I am where I am today.
If you want to get ahead, you must learn these three things.
3 Steps to Get Ahead in Life
1. Ignore What People Say
The first step to winning is to make other people’s opinions not concern you. Do what is on your mind because every idea that enters your head, it’s God that put it there. You have to pay attention to your own ideas.
At the end of the day, success is for those who are doing, not for those who just know how to do it.
That is why you will see someone who is not even that smart listen to others in a public place, steal an idea, go back, and apply it.
They will become successful while you—the one who had the original idea—are still waiting for the “perfect time.”
2. Cut Off People Who Don't Contribute to Your Life
At this stage of your life, you have no business with people who are always there to collect but never to contribute.
This includes broke friends and girlfriends who are always taking from you.
You don’t need to be mingling with people who cannot even afford ordinary transport or pay for their own subscription.
They are burdens. They will be stressing you mentally and emotionally.
If you want to grow, why are you carrying another person’s expenses on top of your own?
This is not a mentality for a man who wants to succeed.
3. Don't Be a Landlord in Another Man's Vision
My guy, as much as people dey promise you things—”I go do this one for you,” “I will help you with that”—you must never forget to build your own life.
On my journey, people have promised me a lot of things, but only a few people kept to what they promised.
They will promise you they will “carry cow” for you, but don’t use that promise to neglect your small chicken.
As you are building other people, make sure you build yourself first.
If you don't, one day they'll turn back and tell you, "You helped me, but you can't even help yourself."
That’s all for today’s lecture, students. The steps to success are simple, but they are not easy.
Don’t be fooled by what you see; focus on what you build.
See you for next class.
